Dr. Fernando Novio studied Chemistry at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (USC), Spain. He obtained his PhD in chemistry in 2007 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), on the topic «synthesis and study of the catalytic reactivity of Platinum-based complexes in desulfurization processes». He carried out a postdoctoral stage at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination (LCC) in Toulouse (France), working on the study of the surface chemistry in metal nanoparticles designed for catalytic processes. And in 2011 he joined the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in the group of Dr. Daniel Ruiz-Molina, working on the development of new synthetic methodologies for the fabrication of functional nanoparticles. During this time he developed a research line based on the design and synthesis of advanced nanoformulations for medical applications, especially for brain diseases treatments. From 2022 he obtained a position as associate professor at UAB. His scientific interests focus on the development of multifunctional nanomaterials with applications in biomedicine as therapeutic (drug delivery, photodynamic therapy, hyperthermia) and diagnostic (contrast agents, biosensors) tools.
